Travel & Logistics

We’re so excited to see you in France! As part of your travel planning, we recommend that you purchase travel insurance (see Get Ready) that covers your booking for unforeseen events and interruptions of your trip. We also suggest purchasing refundable fights or flight protection.

Arrival in Aussois

Be sure to set your clocks—in Aussois, you’re on Central European Standard Time (CEST), which is +9 hours ahead of Pacific Time, +1 hour ahead of GMT / UTC.

Trip Start

Our trip starts in Aussois, France at 4pm on Sunday, September 4, 2022 at the Hôtel du Soleil (see Our Accommodations).

Arrival Airports

The most convenient arrival airports are Geneva Airport (GVA) in Geneva, Switzerland; and Turin Airport (TRN) in Italy. From both airports you can train ir taxi to our trip starting point in Aussois (see below).

Geneva's GVA airport is a major European hub, with direct flights from New York area airports JFK and Newark Liberty (EWR), and Washington's IAD airport.

Currently no direct flights from the United States serve Turin's TRN airport; however TRN has daily direct flights from many European hubs including London, Paris, Amsterdam, Berlin and Frankfurt.

Transfer from Airports

Trains run throughout the day from Geneva's GVA airport to Chambery Challes Les Eaux and onward to Modane (2hrs, 45min; 90 to 110 euros); from Modane it's a quick taxi ride to Aussois (10min, 30 to 40 euros).

From TRN airport, catch an airport shuttle to Torino - Porta Susa station, then board a train to Modane (1hr, 50min; 30 euros), from where it's a short taxi to Aussois (10min, 30 to 40 euros).

Ride-sharing services such as Uber are convenient, if expensive, options: UberX to Aussois from GVA airport costs US$375 - 420. Uber is not currently available from TRN airport to Aussois.

Pre-Arrival Accommodations

We stay in unique, in-demand inns and hotels on this trip—rooms go fast and daily rates change frequently. If you plan to arrive in Aussois prior to the beginning of our journey, we recommend staying at Hôtel du Soleil (see Our Accommodations), which is also our meeting spot on Day One. Please contact the hotel directly to book, and let them know you will be on a trip with Modern Adventure.

If Hôtel du Soleil is booked, we recommend staying in Aussois at nearby La Roche du Croué.

Departure from Nice

Trip End

We end our trip—after 9 days of hiking, photography, connection, and delicious food and drink!—in Nice, France on Monday, September 12, 2022.

Departure Airport

The closest airport is Nice's Côte d'Azur Airport (NCE), a short drive from our hotel. This is a different airport from the one we begin at, so make sure to book your outbound flights accordingly.

Transfer to Airport

After breakfast on our last day together, Modern Adventure will organize a complimentary group transfer to Nice's NCE airport, arriving approximately by 11am.

If you would like to join this transfer, your flight home should be scheduled to depart from NCE at 1pm or later. If your flight leaves at an earlier time, from a different location, or if you are planning on extending your time in Nice, you will be responsible for arranging alternative transportation.

Post-Trip Accommodations

We hope you have the opportunity to extend your stay in Nice. If so, we recommend staying at the Hôtel Riva Art & Spa (see Our Accommodations). Please note that any post-trip accommodations are your responsibility to book, and reservations can be made by contacting the hotel directly, and let them know you are traveling with Modern Adventure.

If Hôtel Riva Art & Spa is booked, we also recommend the well-located boutique Hôtel La Pérouse and Hôtel Windsor.
